Dear Room 13 Families,
Wow! What a wonderful week we have had here in Room 13. We began our week with a beautiful, school wide, Havdalah service. Led by Rabbi Josh and Brock, the children blessed the wine, smelled the spices, made the Havdalah candle “work” and even watched as the candle was extinguished into the wine. It was definitely a great way to begin our week. Throughout the week, we, of course, continued to hear and be a part of the Passover story, to sing exciting Passover songs and create Passover masterpieces. We discussed Passover family traditions, sharing our favorite foods and favorite parts to the Seder. The children continued working on their Seder plates, having an understanding of what each bowl is for and what it represents. We discussed the importance of Elijah’s cup and Miriam’s cup as a part of our Seder. The children heard all about Elijah the prophet; how God asked Elijah to remind others to treat each other kindly, with respect and to only pray to our one God. We heard how Elijah rode off into the sky on a firey chariot and comes back to visit us at each of our Passover Seders. We also heard how not only did Miriam keep Moses safe as he went down the Nile River and led the Israelites in celebration after crossing the Sea of Reads, yet she is also known as the “Woman of the Well.” We learned that while the Israelites traveled through the desert, wherever Miriam was, they had water. She teaches us how precious clean water is for all of us and not to waste even a drop. The children had the opportunity to create either an Elijah’s cup to fill with grape juice or a Miriam’s cup to fill with water. Together, we enjoyed a beautiful Seder. Thank you all for your help and delicious food. It was wonderful reading, singing and celebrating with you! We then ended our week by celebrating a beautiful Shabbat and birthday celebration with Amare and his family. We hope you all have a wonderful weekend, Passover and Spring Break!
