Happy Mother's and Grandmother's week. We have so enjoyed having you come and visit us in class. It was a wonderful opportunity for you to see how our day goes and join us for morning circle. Monday we continued working on our Mother's Day surprise gifts. The children are having a hard time keeping it a surprise and want to show what we are working on. Along with Mother's Day, we have continued talking about Shavuot and the 10 commandments. We discussed that Mother's and Father's Day are in some way part of those commandments, as we should always honor our parents, by listening, following directions, and giving you lots of hugs and kisses. We also spoke about Lag B'Omer making it as child friendly as we could. The children have learned that it is a celebration of learning and how thankful we are to be able to learn about the world, our heritage and culture. We will be having a picnic on Monday, May 15th. Remember to send lunch in a brown paper bags we are sending home today. If the student gets hot lunch, remember send a snack in the brown paper bag. Our class will be making S'mores at the picnic. This week we made strawberry smoothies. It had mixed reviews. Rabbi Josh came in while we were preparing them and we spoke about Shavuot and why we eat dairy on the holiday. Next week we are going to try strawberry/mango smoothies. We think the children will like them a little thicker so we may add ice this time. What a surprise it was on Wednesday to have a rainy day in May, however, we made the best of it before the sun peeked through. Our class had a dance party and we played a game of musical chairs. It was a first for most of the children. They all laughed and learned how to be good sports. Win or not we all had a good time. For some it was a hard lesson that we all don't get to win but, we can have a can still congratulate the winner and the winner needs to be humble about their win too. Friday is always a special busy day and having mothers and grandmothers made it even more special. We baked our Challah together, welcomed the visitors during circle time and played at our many centers. It is always fun to show off just how much we have grown over the year. We also were so excited to give our special gifts to all the mothers. Your faces lit up with such pride and joy that you could feel the warmth all over campus.
